I am an independent visual journalist based in New Haven, Conn., and willing and able to travel anywhere in the world to cover assignments.
I branched out on my own after working at Connecticut newspapers for several years. My passion lies in finding moments that are often overlooked in everyday situations. I love hearing people’s stories, and often find that the most rewarding ones uncover themselves at the least expected moments.
My true passion for photography lies in long-term projects that allow me to spend an extended period of time with a particular subject. Photography is a way to continue to learn and allow myself to experience aspects of life and lifestyles that I would never have before.
I have photographed news, features, travel, sports, corporate reports, advertising and documentary features for a wide range of U.S. and international clients and publications. Previous clients include the Associated Press, Reuters, Der Spiegel, Wired, USA Today, Time and Newsweek.
Although southern Connecticut has been my home for several years, I have lived in a variety of places, including England, Switzerland, New Hampshire and Florida. I hope one day to call India home.
I earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Boston University with a concentration in photojournalism and a minor in sociology, focusing on the impact of the media during war.
I am an active volunteer with the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) and currently serve as the chairperson for the organization’s Northern Short Course in Photojournalism. Previously, I served as NPPA’s Region 1 associate director, director and women’s representative.
In addition I participated in the NPPA Multimedia Immersion Barnstorm XIII.
My work has been recognized by many national and international organizations including:
- The Associated Press Managing Editors Association;
- The Society of Professional Journalists;
- The New England Newspaper Association - Publick Occurrences award for superior achievement in
photojournalism
- The National Press Photographers Association
